Academic Coaching and Consulting
I’m not a psychologist, but I play one to academia.
As someone who has spent over 15 years in higher ed, I am all too familiar with the challenges of staying sane in academia. Deadlines, competition, difficult personalities, convoluted bureaucracies, dismal compensation, political infighting, absentee advisors, not to mention sexism, racism, homophobia, and transphobia—the stresses of academic life are many, and they are real, but they are manageable.
Even the simple task of putting words down on a page can seem overwhelming. I know. I’ve been there. I relate to the particular trials of this experience and can help you navigate them by being a reliable listener and consultant.
I will support you throughout the various stages of your writing process—from developing ideas and outlining projects to keeping you on a writing schedule that works.
For over seven years I have taught undergradates, tutored Masters students, and edited and coached PhD students. I have learned that many have the same anxieties. They are not always easily overcome but they can be mitigated. I know because I, myself, have benefited from the generosity of great coaches, therapists, and mentors.
I know that non-native English speakers often have the most difficult time writing, and much of my work has been with international students, including those from China, South Korea, Turkey, Poland, Mexico, and Brazil. I welcome ESL writers from around the world.
